Why I Wrote This Book
Hi, I’m Alex Levy, creator of the podcast Through Conversations and author of The Time Is Now: A Guide to Honor Your Time on Earth.
I wrote this book because I’ve been where you might be right now. On paper, I was living the dream—working as a speechwriter for a prominent public figure, checking all the societal boxes: a great job, a promising career, a clear path to success. But something felt wrong. I felt drained, confined by the demands of office politics, the pursuit of promotions, and a system that equated fulfillment with productivity.
The paradox was undeniable: I was succeeding by society’s standards, yet I felt like I was losing myself. That’s when I realized I was living a life based on the deferred plan—postponing joy, creativity, and authenticity today for the hope of someday enjoying it in the distant future. But why wait? Why not honor your time on Earth right now?
This book is the culmination of my journey to reclaim my life and redefine success. It’s about taking the leap of faith I took when I quit my “dream job” to pursue my passions: launching my podcast, exploring my creativity, and having deep, transformative conversations with brilliant minds like Neil deGrasse Tyson, Kieran Setiya, Chris Williamson, and James Hollis. These conversations, along with my personal experiences, shaped the ideas in this book. I needed this book for myself—to guide me through uncertainty, to align my work with my meaning, and to help me navigate the rapidly shifting landscape of life and work.
We’re living in a time of immense change. With the rise of AI and automation, the traditional workplace is evolving faster than we can imagine. What happens when repetitive tasks are no longer ours to perform? How do we align our careers with our creativity and passions? These are the questions I explore in the book—and the ones I hope to help you answer.
I wrote The Time Is Now not just to share my story but to invite you to rewrite yours. It’s a tough-love manifesto to help you take action, honor your creative potential, and align your life with what truly matters to you.
The time to start is today—not tomorrow, not when everything seems perfect, but now. Because the truth is, you build the road as you walk it.
Thank you for being here. Let’s take this journey together.
